Applications

1. This product is a solvent and serves as an intermediate in the production of dimethyl sulfoxide, methionine, and pesticides. It can be used as a solvent in organic synthesis, polymerization reactions, and cyanation reactions. It is also used as an analytical reagent, in the spinning of polyacrylonitrile and other synthetic fibers, and in hydraulic oils. Additionally, it can be used as an odorizer for city gas, an industrial purifier, a coating release agent, a low-temperature preservative for batteries, and a pesticide penetrant. It is also used in limited applications in hematological pharmaceuticals, plant pathology, and nutritional supplements.

3. According to China’s GB 2760—96 standard, it is a permitted food flavoring agent. It is primarily used in the formulation of corn, tomato, potato, dairy, pineapple, and citrus-type fruit flavors, as well as green-type flavorings.

Chemical Properties

A colorless, transparent, highly volatile liquid. It has a foul odor. Soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether; insoluble in water.
