Applications
1. Ethyl sulfide can be used as a standard gas for chemical testing (concentration range: 10 ppm–100%).
2. It serves as a key raw material in organic synthesis, such as in the synthesis of derivatives like bis(2,2-diethoxyethyl) disulfide;
3. It can serve as an environmental marker; since ethyl sulfide is present in waste gases from petroleum refining, these gases must be treated using technologies such as UV photolysis.
Chemical Properties
A colorless to pale yellow liquid. It has an ether-like odor. It is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol and oils.
