Chemical Properties

Propylthiol is a colorless liquid with a foul odor; it is soluble in alcohols and ethers, and very slightly soluble in water.

Uses

1. Propylthiol, also known as n-propylthiol, thiopropanol, or 1-mercaptopropane, is used in pesticide production as an intermediate for synthesizing the organophosphate insecticides propylthiophos and thiopropylphos; the nematicide and soil insecticide methiophos; and the herbicide clodine. It is also used as an intermediate in other organic syntheses.

2. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pesticides and other organic compounds.

3. It can serve as a raw material for organic synthesis and is also an intermediate for pesticide insecticides.

4. 1-Propanethiol is used as a reactant in the organic synthesis of several organic compounds, including those for leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) inhibitors, which show potential for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It is also used as a component in certain herbicides.
