
Uses
n-Hexanol is used in fragrance bases and in the formulation of essential oils (such as geranium oil) as part of the top note. It may also be used in trace amounts in violet, osmanthus, magnolia, and ylang-ylang-type fragrances to modify or enhance a fresh, green note. Additionally, it may be used in trace amounts in food-grade coconut formulations, berry fragrances, and various fruit-based fragrances. It serves as a solvent and analytical reagent and is also used in the pharmaceutical industry to produce preservatives and sleeping pills. This product is classified as a food-grade flavoring agent permitted for use in China, primarily used in the formulation of coconut and berry-based flavorings; it is also used in the production of surfactants, plasticizers, and fatty alcohols; serves as a chromatographic analysis reagent; and is employed in organic synthesis, among other applications.
