Uses
1. n-Decanol is a raw material used in the manufacture of surfactants, plasticizers, synthetic fibers, defoamers, herbicides, lubricant additives, and fragrances, among others; it is also used as a solvent in inks and similar products.
2. It is designated as an approved fragrance ingredient and is primarily used in the formulation of orange, lemon, coconut, and mixed fruit-type flavorings.
3. It is used in trace amounts in fragrance formulations such as acacia, osmanthus, violet, red rose, orange blossom, yellow daffodil, iris, lilac, jasmine, and sweet orange blossom.
4. In lower-grade floral fragrance formulations, it can serve as a blending agent or modifier for linalool. It is sometimes used for industrial deodorization or to mask unpleasant odors in industrial products. In food flavorings, it may also be used in small quantities in cream, sweet orange, coconut, lemon, and various fruit flavors.
