1. Lubricant; emulsifier; viscosity-increasing agent. This product can be used in cosmetics and topical formulations. In topical formulations, octadecylhexadecanol increases the viscosity of w/o and o/w emulsions. It stabilizes emulsions and acts as a co-emulsifier, thereby reducing the amount of surfactant required to form a stable emulsion.
2. Octadecylhexanol is also used in the preparation of non-aqueous creams and lip balms. It has been reported that octadecylhexanol can be used to slow the release of water-soluble drugs. When used in combination with surfactants, it can form emulsions with highly complex microstructures, including liquid crystals, lamellar structures, and gel phases.
