Chemical Properties
A pale yellow to colorless, transparent liquid. Has an aromatic ester odor. Relative density: 0.9042. Boiling point: 160.5°C. Flash point: 54.44°C. Refractive index: 1.3992. Soluble in various organic solvents and in water at a pH of 3.0–3.5. It is easily hydrolyzed and reacts rapidly with water, releasing ethanol and forming the corresponding condensate, which appears as a colorless, low-viscosity liquid.
Applications
1. As a one-component RTV silicone rubber crosslinking agent (alcohol-type); as a crosslinking agent in polymers (e.g., PE); as a water-repellent agent (Chemicalbook); as a surface treatment agent for glass cloth; and as a moisture-proof insulating material for radio components, etc.
2. Vinyltriethoxysilane is widely used as a coupling agent, acting as a cross-linker at the interface between two different materials to improve the adhesion of organic polymers (such as polyesters, polyimides, silicone resins, polyethylene, and polypropylene) to inorganic fillers.
3. It serves both as a coupling agent and a crosslinking agent. Applicable polymer types include polyethylene, polypropylene, and unsaturated polyesters. It is commonly used in fiberglass, plastics, glass, cables, ceramics, and rubber.
