Chemical Properties
A colorless, transparent liquid. This product is readily soluble in various organic solvents; it is prone to hydrolysis and condenses to form polysiloxanes; it polymerizes readily when subjected to excessive heat, light, or in the presence of peroxides.
Applications
1. Primarily used in unsaturated polyester composites, where it improves the mechanical, electrical, and light transmission properties of the composites; in particular, it significantly enhances the wet-state performance of the composites.
2. When used to impregnate glass fibers (with this coupling agent), it improves the wet mechanical strength and electrical properties of glass-fiber-reinforced composites.
3. In the wire and cable industry, treating a clay-filled, peroxide-crosslinked EPDM system with this coupling agent improves the dissipation factor and the ratio of inductance to capacitance.
4. When copolymerized with vinyl acetate and acrylic or methacrylic monomers, these polymers are widely used in coatings, adhesives, and sealants, providing excellent adhesion and durability.
