Chemical Synthesis: It is the most essential raw material in the global acetic acid industry and is also widely used in the production of basic chemical products such as acetic anhydride, butyraldehyde, octanol, pentaerythritol, triacetaldehyde, trichloroacetaldehyde, pyridine, and their derivatives. It serves as a critical organic synthesis intermediate.
2. Food Flavoring Industry: Used to formulate fruit-based food flavorings such as citrus, apple, and cream; it may also be used in small quantities as a food flavor enhancer.
3. Other Applications: Can be used as a reducing agent and a disinfectant; it also serves as a pharmaceutical reference standard for impurity testing under the glacial acetic acid entry in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
Standard Storage Requirements
1. Basic Storage Conditions: Must be stored in a completely sealed container to prevent contact with air. Typically, it should be stored in a refrigerated environment at 2–8°C. The temperature in standard industrial storage facilities must not exceed 29°C to prevent excessive volatilization caused by high temperatures, which could pose an explosion risk.
2. Safety Isolation Requirements: Storage facilities must be equipped with explosion-proof lighting and ventilation systems. Keep the substance away from open flames, heat sources, and electrostatic sparks at all times. The use of equipment or tools that may generate sparks is strictly prohibited; It must be strictly separated from strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, strong bases, and halogen-containing chemicals; mixed storage is strictly prohibited.
3. Storage Control Guidelines: This substance should not be stored in large quantities for extended periods, as long-term storage carries the risk of forming unstable peroxides; storage areas must be equipped with complete emergency spill response equipment and explosion-proof containment materials, and the “two-person, two-lock” management system for hazardous chemicals must be strictly enforced.
