Olfactory Characteristics
At high concentrations, it exhibits a complex aroma blending grassy notes with an oily scent; when diluted, it transforms into a signature, mild, creamy-sweet fragrance. It is a highly recognizable short-chain alkenal fragrance.
Core Applications
1. Food Flavoring: FEMA No. 3289, listed as an approved food flavoring under China’s GB 2760 standard. It is primarily used in the formulation of cream-based flavorings, with a maximum permitted level of 1.0 mg/kg in soft drinks, candies, baked goods, and dairy products.
2. Organic Synthesis: As a fine organic synthesis intermediate, it is prepared through steps such as the reaction of acetylene with bromoethane and hydrogenation catalyzed by a Lindlar catalyst, and is used in the production of downstream alkenal derivatives.
3. Research Applications: Used as a biochemical reagent in life science research, suitable for experimental scenarios such as gas chromatography analysis.
Storage Requirements
Must be stored in a sealed container in a designated flammable materials area at 0–6°C. This substance is air-sensitive and must be kept away from open flames and high-temperature heat sources. It must be stored separately from strong oxidizing agents to prevent the risk of combustion.
