Uses
1. Used as an analytical reagent and gas chromatography stationary phase.
2. Used as a solvent for UV spectroscopic analysis.
3. Used for the extraction of aromatic hydrocarbons, as a reaction medium for resins and dyes, and as a solvent for acrylic fiber polymerization and filament drawing.
4. Can be used as an organic solvent, reaction medium, and intermediate in organic synthesis. It has a wide range of applications.
Chemical Properties
At room temperature, it is a colorless liquid that is hygroscopic. It is virtually odorless and has a bitter taste. It is soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, diethyl ether, benzene, and chloroform. This product is weakly basic and unstable in the presence of acids; it forms salts when exposed to strong acids. It decomposes at high temperatures, reacts violently with chlorine, and burns with a pale blue flame in air.
