Odor:
When diluted with 0.10% propylene glycol, it exhibits a skunk-like characteristic odor—a blend of animal gamey notes, fruity aromas, and grape-like scents—and overall belongs to the typical sulfur-containing sulfur-like fragrance profile.
Applications:
1. As a food flavoring agent compliant with FEMA No. 3677, it is used to formulate grape and tropical fruit flavorings;
2. It is also a key synthetic intermediate for the cholesterol-lowering drug simvastatin and can serve as a RAFT polymerization chain transfer agent for modifying polymer materials.
Storage:
Store at room temperature away from light in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area in a sealed container. Keep away from heat sources and open flames. Store separately from strong oxidizing agents and strong alkalis. Avoid contact with air to prevent oxidation and discoloration.
