Introduction:

Triisopropylsilyl Trifluoromethanesulfonate can be prepared by one-step esterification of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid with TIPSCl.

Application:

Triisopropylsilyl Trifluoromethanesulfonate is a carboxylate derivative that can be used as an organic synthesis intermediate.

Preparation:

To 48.7 mL of TIPSCl (44.3 g, 230 mmol, 1.00 eq), add 20.0 mL (34.0 g, 230 mmol, 1.00 eq) of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid dropwise, and stir at 60 °C for 24 hours. The resulting precipitate was then vacuum-distilled under 0.01 mbar at 60 °C to yield the title compound, a colorless liquid (69.8 g, 228 mmol).

Hazards:

Triisopropylsilyl Trifluoromethanesulfonate is a sulfonic ester compound that reacts with water in the skin and is highly irritating to the skin; therefore, skin contact should be avoided as much as possible during use, and appropriate safety precautions should be taken.
