Applications
1. Diphenyl dimethoxysilane (DMDPS, DDS) is an acetylation reagent. It can be used as a precursor for the preparation of silica, as an electrolyte additive in lithium-ion batteries, and to prevent battery overcharging.
2. It is primarily used in propylene polymerization reactions to enhance isotacticity.
Synthesis
Using silicon powder and chlorobenzene as raw materials, and under the action of copper and other catalysts, the synthesis of two Ph–Si chemical bonds is simultaneously carried out in a fluidized-bed reactor at temperatures ranging from 40Chemicalbook0 to 600ºC. One of the main products is diphenyl dichlorosilane. Diphenyl dichlorosilane is then subjected to methanol hydrolysis to produce diphenyl dimethoxysilane.
