Functions:
3-(Methacryloyloxy)propyltrimethoxysilane is a widely used organosilane coupling agent. It is primarily used as a tackifier for resins and polymeric materials; for the synthesis of silicone oils containing methacryloxy groups; as a crosslinking agent for room-temperature-curing acrylic coatings and polyolefin-based systems; in copolymerization with methyl methacrylate to produce contact lenses; and to enhance the hydrophobicity of insulating oils and optical fiber coatings, as well as to improve the mechanical properties of polyester concrete.
Chemical Properties:
A colorless, transparent liquid that is readily soluble in various solvents; after hydrolysis and curing, it forms an insoluble polysiloxane.
Applications:
1.Primarily used in unsaturated polyester composites, it improves the mechanical, electrical, and light transmission properties of the composites; in particular, it significantly enhances their wet-state performance.
2.Impregnating glass fibers with a solution containing this coupling agent improves the wet-state mechanical strength and electrical properties of glass-fiber-reinforced composites. Chemicalbook
3.In the wire and cable industry, treating a clay-filled, peroxide-crosslinked EPDM system with this coupling agent improves the dissipation factor and the ratio of inductance to capacitance.
4. When copolymerized with vinyl acetate and acrylic or methacrylic monomers, these polymers are widely used in coatings, adhesives, and sealants, providing excellent adhesion and durability.
