Silane coupling agents, also known as silane treatment agents or primers, have the general formula Y(CH₂)nSiX₃. They are organosilicon monomers containing two or more different reactive groups in their molecules, which can form chemical bonds (couplings) with both organic and inorganic materials, thereby enhancing the adhesion between the two materials. In the general formula, n is an integer ranging from 0 to 3.
Applications
1. Used in products such as rubber, plastics, glass fiber treatment agents, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and crosslinking agents.
2. Mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane is a reactive and crosslinkable silane coupling agent that hydrolyzes under acidic or basic conditions. It is widely used in natural and synthetic rubbers. Additionally, as a reinforcing agent and crosslinking accelerator, it can be used in composite materials (such as resin-glass fiber composites), coatings, inks, adhesives, and sealants, and can also serve as a resin-modifying additive and enzyme immobilizer. It is commonly used to treat inorganic fillers such as SiO₂ and carbon black, and serves as an activator, coupling agent, crosslinking agent, and reinforcing agent in polymers such as rubber and silicone rubber.
