Odor:
The pure product has a mild, sweet, honey-like aroma, while industrial-grade crude products often have a faint grassy scent and a slightly pungent acrylic odor.
Uses:
1. As a food flavoring agent approved under China’s GB 2760 standard, it is used in the formulation of honey, tobacco, and citrus-based food flavorings, where it is added in trace amounts to enhance the sweet, smooth depth of the flavor profile.
2. As a general-purpose industrial solvent, it is used to dissolve nitrocellulose, synthetic resins, and coatings. It can also serve as an organic synthesis intermediate for the production of methyl isobutyl ketone, pharmaceutical intermediates, and pesticides, as well as a mineral flotation agent and paint stripper.
Storage:
Store in a sealed container in a cool, well-ventilated area at temperatures below 30°C. Keep strictly away from open flames, high-temperature heat sources, and strong oxidizing agents. Store in accordance with regulations for flammable and hazardous chemicals. A small amount of diisopropylamine is typically added as a stabilizer to prevent prolonged exposure to air, which can cause oxidation and polymerization leading to the formation of peroxides. There is a risk of explosion during distillation.
