
Odor:
Slightly pungent at high concentrations; when diluted, it exhibits a sweet, smooth, caramel-like etheric aroma. It occurs naturally in beer, tobacco, and honey, and is a typical caramel flavoring ingredient.
Uses:
1. As a food flavoring agent approved under China’s GB 2760 standard, it is used to formulate caramel, honey, and tobacco-type food flavorings, adding natural sweet and aromatic flavors to baked goods and beverages.
2. As an organic synthesis intermediate, it is used in the production of polyethers, acrolein, and dyes, and can also be used to synthesize antihypertensive imidazole-based drugs; it is a key intermediate in the pharmaceutical and flavor industries.
Storage:
Store in a sealed container at 2–8°C in a cool, dark place. Keep strictly away from open flames, high-temperature heat sources, and strong oxidizing agents. Store in accordance with regulations for flammable liquids. A small amount of methanol may be added as a stabilizer to prevent polymerization and deterioration caused by prolonged exposure to air.
