Odor:
At high concentrations, it has a strong, pungent odor reminiscent of rancid cheese or foot odor; when highly diluted, it exhibits sweet, smooth fruity notes and subtle berry undertones. It occurs naturally in apples, cheese, valerian, and cured tobacco leaves, and is a classic base ingredient for milky and fruity fragrance profiles.
Applications:
1. Used in the formulation of cheese, cream, and tropical fruit-based food flavorings; even in trace amounts, it significantly enhances the authenticity of the dairy aroma and the complexity of fermented notes, making it a core base ingredient for cheese flavorings.
2. As a key organic synthetic intermediate, it is used in the production of isovalerate-based fragrances and the sedative-hypnotic bromoisovalerylurea; it is also used in the preparation of fine chemicals for paints, plasticizers, and lubricants.
3. As a short-chain fatty acid, it can be used in the formulation of feed additives to improve the palatability of livestock and poultry feed, and it can also serve as a modifier in animal-based fragrances for personal care products.
Storage and Safety:
Store in a sealed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area at temperatures below 30°C, away from open flames, high-temperature heat sources, and strong oxidizing agents. Wear safety goggles and acid- and alkali-resistant protective gloves during handling to avoid direct contact with skin or eyes, which may cause burns.
