Chemical Properties
It has a distinctive odor similar to benzaldehyde and readily volatilizes along with its vapor. It is slightly soluble in water and readily soluble in ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, chloroform, and benzene.
Uses
1. Primarily used as an industrial solvent in the production of furfural, furfuryl alcohol, tetrahydrofuran, γ-valerolactone, pyrrole, and tetrahydropyrrole, among others.
2. Used as an analytical reagent.
3. Used as a raw material for organic synthesis, as well as in the synthesis of resins, varnishes, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, rubber, and coatings.
4. Used in the tanning of leather. It should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse, protected from light and direct sunlight, and kept away from sources of fire.
5. Furfural is an important organic chemical raw material. It can be used to produce maleic anhydride, oxalic acid, furfuryl alcohol, and tetrahydrofuran. It can also be used to synthesize furfural resins, furan resins, rubber vulcanization accelerators, rubber and plastic antioxidants, and preservatives. It is primarily used in the pharmaceutical, pesticide, veterinary medicine, and food industries.
