Description

Chemical Properties

A colorless to pale yellow, viscous, oily liquid; the color may darken with prolonged storage. It has an unpleasant odor characteristic of thiophene compounds; when highly diluted, it exhibits a nutty aroma. It is highly soluble in water and soluble in ethanol, diethyl ether, benzene, and chloroform.

Uses

1. Specified in China’s GB 2760-96 as a food flavoring agent temporarily permitted for use.

2. Used in nut products, dairy products, meat products, and as a pharmaceutical intermediate.

3. Can be used in the formulation of chocolate, milk, and nut flavorings.
