Main Applications
1. Photographic development: As a key reducing developer component in black-and-white film and X-ray film, PQ developer—when combined with phenidone—constitutes a classic standard formulation. It reduces exposed silver halides to a metallic silver image, enabling excellent control over image contrast.
2. Polymer Industry: It is the most commonly used free-radical polymerization inhibitor for the storage and transportation of olefin monomers (such as styrene and acrylates). By trapping free radicals, it terminates chain reactions and prevents the self-polymerization of monomers; it can also be used to adjust gel times in unsaturated polyester resins.
3. Fine Chemical Synthesis: As a key intermediate, it is used in the synthesis of anthraquinone dyes and azo dyes, and is also involved in the synthesis pathways of anticancer and antimalarial pharmaceuticals.
Storage Requirements
1. General Environment: Must be stored in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and light-protected area. The ambient temperature should be maintained below 30°C. Keep away from sources of fire and heat, and avoid direct sunlight.
2. Segregated Storage: Must be strictly separated from strong oxidizing agents, strong bases, and strong acids. It must also be completely isolated from food and feed products; mixed storage is prohibited.
3. Special Precautions: This substance is sensitive to air and light. Immediately reseal the container after use to minimize contact with air and prevent oxidation and discoloration;
4. Safety Equipment: The storage area must be equipped with appropriate firefighting equipment and dedicated materials for containing spills. Storage and transportation must be managed in accordance with relevant regulations for toxic chemicals.
