Applications
1. Adipic acid is the most valuable aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. It exhibits the general properties of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, including salt formation, esterification, and amidation reactions. Adipic acid is primarily used as a raw material for three major product categories: the synthesis of nylon 66 salts, which are then used to manufacture polyamide resins and fibers (nylon 66)—nylon 66 being the largest end market for adipic acid; the synthesis of polyester polyols, used in the production of polyester-based polyurethanes; and adipate plasticizers.
2. Additionally, it can be used in the production of high-grade lubricants and food additives (acidity regulators for food and beverages).
