1. Disperses in water to form a turbid solution with mineral and vegetable oils. Used as a defoaming agent in water-based coatings.

2. Used as a viscosity reducer in vinyl plastic sols, as a viscosity-control additive in hair dye creams, and also as an emulsifier, coupling agent, and solubilizer in paper softening additives, metalworking lubricants, and textile lubricants.
