Uses
Benzalkonium chloride is a cationic surfactant and a non-oxidizing biocide. It possesses broad-spectrum, highly effective bactericidal and algicidal properties, effectively controlling the proliferation of bacteria and algae as well as slime growth in water. It also exhibits good slime-stripping properties and certain dispersing and penetrating effects, while providing moderate oil-removing, deodorizing, and corrosion-inhibiting capabilities. Medical-grade benzalkonium chloride is also used as an antiseptic in adhesive bandages.
Hazards
Benzalkonium chloride is acutely toxic (when ingested), harmful if swallowed, and can cause severe skin burns and eye damage.
Usage Instructions
The dilution concentration of benzalkonium chloride solution may vary depending on the application site and intended use. To dilute, use sterile water for injection or fresh distilled water to achieve the desired concentration. The diluted solution must be prepared immediately before use.
