
Overview
High-purity dimethyl sebacate is produced primarily from castor oil. The current method for preparing dimethyl sebacate involves mixing sebacic acid and methanol in a specific ratio. Under the action of a catalyst, once the sebacic acid is completely dissolved, an esterification reaction is carried out. When the temperature drops to the point where a phase boundary forms in the solution, the aqueous phase is separated; Then, additional decanedioic acid and methanol are added to carry out a second esterification reaction. In the above esterification process, concentrated sulfuric acid is generally used as the catalyst. Since this liquid catalyst cannot be recovered, it not only incurs high costs but also poses certain hazards to operators during the process.
